About Patient Safety Organization of Florida

The Florida Hospital Association (FHA) and the South Florida Hospital & Healthcare Association (SFHHA) have partnered to develop the Patient Safety Organization of Florida (PSOFlorida) under the authority of the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005 (PSQIA).

PSOFlorida has been listed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) as a qualified patient safety organization. PSOFlorida is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation and a component of the FHA and the SFHHA. As a certified Patient Safety Organization (PSO) with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, PSOFlorida offers a secure and protected environment for health care providers to report information about adverse events and hazards so learning can be shared and system improvements can be made to achieve safer, more reliable care.

PSOFlorida was established to assist hospitals, health systems, physicians, and other healthcare providers in providing the safest, highest quality of care to their patients. The membership of PSOFlorida includes hospitals and healthcare organizations across Florida and in several other states. Its mission is to improve the safety and quality of healthcare delivery through the application of science and implementation of best-practice evidence with the objective of preventing patient injury or death.

About Patient Safety Organization of Florida

PSOFlorida supports safety culture development by providing education, tools, and other resources to its members. The organization’s goals are centered on the following activities:

  • Provide protection for events and PSWP used to reduce risk and improve safe care delivery.
  • Learn from reported events.
  • Share with membership the trends and patterns identified in reported events
  • Offer resources for individualized follow up and feedback related to events
  • Provide education and training specific to patient safety
